Love the Lord and love your neighbor
At Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, it is our mission to follow and obey the greatest commandment and the great commission.
Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shall love thy neighbor as thy self.
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have command you: and, lo, I am with you, even unto the end of the world.

Pleasant Grove Baptist Church was organized July 1, 1874 when William D. and Sarah Lewis donated 31/2 acres of land on which the church was to be built. The first worship service was held in March 1875. The first pastor of the church was Rev. John Spencer. The church was not completed on the inside until early 1900. The pews were "home made" with two plank boards and the pulpit was donated and made by Norman Lewis.
The first graves at the church were for two gypsy children. During early 1900 there were 45 male members and 40 female members.
In 1953 Burruss Land and Lumber Company deeded 1.6 acres of land to the building program trustees. With the help of members and non-members the church was built which is our present house of worship.
In 1958 there was a need for expansion and ground was broken for two additional Sunday School rooms.
In 1973 plans were made for an addition to the church containing a large room, kitchen, and restrooms.
